5 Fall Fashion Trends From NYFW

Last week was Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016 in New York. That brought more than 115,000 fashionistas and friends to the Big Apple to attend some 300 fashion shows in just eight days. And, now it’s London’s turn. So, what are the fall fashion trends hot off the runway that you need to know?

Though these are trends for next fall and winter, the internet pushes everything out much faster than ever. In other words, you’ll be seeing them sooner than that in stores and on consumers!

Here are a few trends…

  • Fur stole the show. From floor-length minks to delicate fox collars, and even the more rugged look of shearling, real fur is back. Designer Jeremy Scott even showed off a short pink polka-dot dress with fur detail at the hemline. Look for that feel of fur to be reflected in frame colorations and textures.

  • Print motifs took center stage. From Dalmation prints to velvet florals and gypsy paisleys, patterns and strong textures adorned everything, including accessories. Look for more play with patterns, as well as texture, in eyewear as well.

  • Monochromatics stressed simplicity. Black and white in particular took to the runways, thanks to designers like Vera Wang and Victoria Beckman. Wang’s slick black and white collection and Beckham’s houndstooth patterns are just two examples of how black and white are big. You’ll be seeing similar trends in frames—especially in big, bold, and retro-glam sunglasses.

  • Neutral with a splash. Though London Fashion Week is still underway, so far there’s lot of black “power” dressing, as well as variations on the neutral suit theme, though usually paired with bright and bold layering. While power dressing is neutral (black or gray), there were also plenty of bold prints and Asian-inspired fashions on the London runways to keep the look fresh and varied. For eyewear, that likely means color blocking, or seemingly subtle looks with unexpected splashes of color.

  • The clutch is back. The hand-held clutch purse was the accessory of choice in New York. With lots of fun and colorful patterns, it makes one wonder if colorful eyeglass cases will be seen this year, too.
