Fashion In Focus

What’s new and now? Here’s what a few top fashion gurus have to say about spring and summer.

At Vogue, the collections they’re seeing reflect many mixed messages. According to the latest trend report, they range from “soft and undone to utilitarian preparedness and a streamlined minimalism.”

There’s also a lot of attention on neons. The trend watchers at Harper’s Bazaar point to the role color is playing. That story is all about versatile tones, many of which take their lead from lime green.

As for “The Trend Spotter,” it reports green and other neons are definitely de rigueur in accessories as well—so are bright hues and edgy silhouettes popular on today’s runways.

Tip: “People are getting more comfortable with pushing the boundaries. Fashion is only getting more creative in terms of self-expression.”

The Little Mermaid

If last year was big on Barbie, this spring and summer are all about The Little Mermaid. That is, “Sparkles and sheer and paillettes in colors that make our inner 5-year-old smile in delight,” reports Harper’s Bazaar. As for colors? “Think seafoam green, light purple, and easy pink, sometimes all at once.”

Don’t give up on white, however. White on white is everywhere as well, often paired on the catwalk with oversized white eyeglass and sunwear frames.

What do the color gurus at the Pantone Color Institute have to say? It’s all about contrasts. “Colors for Spring/Summer 2023 are recalibrated for the new era,” says Leatrice Eiseman, the Institute’s executive director. “Blending escapism with reality, wholesomeness, and joy, we embrace the exploration of extreme contrast in mood and color.”

Your Own Style

There’s also a huge emphasis on making it your own. “Among the experts,” reports Glamour, “there’s a general theme…embracing your own style. The trends…are all fun to participate in, sure, but only if you can make them your own.

“I think people are getting more comfortable with pushing the boundaries,” Instagram fashion creator and celeb Kendall Rayburn tells Glamour. “Fashion is only getting more creative in terms of self-expression.”
