Building Back-to-School Biz

You already know that your product sales are heavily influenced by seasonality. Back-to-school time can be a huge boost to business. Between now and then, however, the bottom often drops out on product sales.

One way to get around that, and turn summer into a strong selling season, is to participate in local community events as well as to start the back-to-school buzz early. How can you do this? That’s what we asked one of Shamir’s long-standing Peer-to-Peer Champions.

Tip: “We pick a day and have a rep with a line of children’s frames come in and bring a large selection of kid’s frames.”

Two Events…Two Markets

Laura Miller, O.D., is the owner of Northwest Hills Eye Care in Austin, TX, and Complete Low Vision Care in neighboring Round Rock, TX. She promotes both branches of her business during the summer.

“One of the events we participate in as a group is the Foundation Fighting Blindness walk,” she explains. “It is a great event that supports research for conditions that lead to blindness. Since we are a clinic that works with low vision patients, this fundraising event is something that we fully support. It is also a great way to get our name out in the community.” She does that by posting on the practice’s social media channels announcing that they are participating in the walk and asking for support.

When it comes to kids, the Austin practice actually hosts an event for them. “We annually hold a one-day summer back-to-school kids’ event,” she explains. “We pick a day and have a rep with a line of children’s frames come in and bring a large selection of kid’s frames. We do discounts on glasses or contact lenses for that day.

“We also offer snacks for kids and make it a fun day for the whole family!  It is always a big hit and a good way to start out at the end of summer and to begin the school year with a focus on good vision!”
