Bringing Home the Gold
A highlight of the annual Silmo international trade show, held in Paris since 1994, is the naming of the Silmo d’Or award recipients. The awards recognize the optical industry’s most innovative products in everything from shapes, designs, colors, materials, and manufacturing know-how.
In the all-important Vision category, Shamir won top honors by bringing home this year’s gold for Glacier PLUS™Metaform™, its nano-structure manufacturing technology created to superpower spectacle lenses by embedding them with higher impact resistance, rich protective features, and light wavelength control capabilities.
Tip: “Metaform is a disruptive and eco-responsible manufacturing technology that upgrades at unprecedented levels mechanical and physical features of lenses.”
A CRUCIAL CHALLENGE
Talking about the top tier of creations in the competition, Silmo organizers explain, “To create and innovate is to succeed in the challenge of launching something new on a market, a crucial challenge for the competitiveness of companies in an environment where competition is always strong. Creation and innovation are also a formidable source of energy internally because they stimulate know-how and skills within companies.”
DISRUPTIVE + ECO-RESPONSIBLE
Here’s how the award committee described Shamir Metaform and explained why it is deserving of this globally recognized award:
“Shamir Metaform is a disruptive and eco-responsible manufacturing technology that upgrades at unprecedented levels mechanical and physical features of lenses, such as strength, weight, and thickness. Metaform also revolutionizes [the] AR coating process,” continue the Silmo accolades, with “a single step for a faster, more cosmetic, more reliable, and more durable result, with lenses up to 18 times more resistant, 40% thinner and lighter, a durable and aesthetic coating without Newton rings.” The committee also recognized Shamir Metaform’s “fast, resource-efficient production.”
