Understanding EyePoint Technology

Shamir is known world-wide for its dedication to research and development, as are the many technological innovations resulting from that commitment. As part of its design software, EyePoint Technology is one very important result of that research.

This technology simulates precisely how the eye will look through the lens, and then it calculates the optical performance of thousands of locations covering the surface of the lens.  All of Shamir’s premium Freeform® designs do, in fact, utilize EyePoint Technology®.

Tip: This technology promises an improved viewing experience for all patients, regardless of their individual prescription.

1,000+ It calculates the optical performance of thousands of locations covering the lens surface.

The technology continues to advance and can be described in three ways, based on progression of the technology.

1.Basic Definition… Overall, the term EyePoint Technology® refers to the fact that by analyzing data from over 3,600 points on each lens, Shamir is able to create lenses that offer patients a more accurate and comfortable visual experience.

2. Personalized Product… By enabling the delivery of personalized lenses with wide, distortion-free viewing fields, this technology has standardized lenses for both hyperopic and myopic eyeglass wearers. Relying on precise measurements and prescriptions, and on simulation of perceived, real-world viewing fields, the technology enables lens designers to achieve precise power profile control, as well as apply specific power emphasis at different points and vision zones across lens surfaces.

3. Artificial Intelligence… Utilizing Head Eye Integrative Movement software (HEMI), Shamir can now see exactly where in the lens patients actually look, along both the vertical and horizontal meridians, when they specifically perform tasks in the various visual zones. This technology enables Shamir to design a lens that takes into account actual viewing angles computed for every distance.

Previously, each wearer’s perceived viewing field was based on their prescription, though the lens design remained the same. This meant that minus lenses increased the field of view, while a plus lens reduced it. EyePoint Technology has solved this problem, so both hyperopic and myopic patients experience similar viewing fields.

BIG DIFFERENCE

A related advancement? In addition, by applying elements of Artificial Intelligence that mimic human intelligence, Shamir’s Visual AI Engine™ makes each lens specific to how each individual will use it. It accommodates each person specifically using five parameters—lens material, vertex distance, near and far pupil distance, reading area positioning, and frame measurements. This first-to-market breakthrough is just one example of why Shamir is the recognized world leader in custom-designed lens technology.
